aluminium-bronze

Product Description

Aluminium bronze is a type of alloy primarily composed of copper (Cu) with a significant addition of aluminum (Al), typically ranging from 5% to 12%, along with other elements such as iron, nickel, manganese, and silicon. This alloy combines the excellent properties of copper with the strength, corrosion resistance, and hardness imparted by the aluminum content. It is widely used in applications where high strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance are required, such as in marine environments, aerospace, and industrial machinery.

Properties

  • Color and Appearance : Aluminium bronze has a distinctive golden to reddish-brown color. Its bright finish and metallic luster make it visually appealing, often used in decorative applications, though it is most valued for its functional properties.

  • Strength and Durability : This alloy is known for its high strength, which is higher than that of pure copper. The addition of aluminum enhances its mechanical properties, providing excellent hardness and wear resistance, which makes it ideal for parts exposed to mechanical stresses and harsh conditions.

  • Corrosion Resistance : Aluminium bronze exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion, particularly in seawater and other harsh environments. This makes it highly suitable for marine applications such as ship propellers, pumps, and valves, where exposure to saltwater is a concern.

  • Thermal and Electrical Conductivity : While not as conductive as pure copper or copper alloys like copper-tin (bronze), aluminium bronze still has good electrical and thermal conductivity, though these properties are lower than those of pure copper.
